Well, it might have something to do with the angle that it's on and also because it's depicting a king size cigarette which is a little bigger than a regular cigarette. Maybe that's it?

but i like the style that the pencils have allowed this page to have.
Omar Du More is actually done in a cross-media between ink and pencil. The line-work is definitely ink, but the contrast in shade is in pencil.
You're right though, you do get better contrast with ink. Though for the sake of argument, this is only just a mini-comic with only 2-3 pages an issue. I am however taking on a much larger project that will be all in ink and perhaps some color schemes worked for effect. This web-comic is called Moonlit Battles and will have more in detail on my next entry.
